Lan’s Bedroom

This project was created using Maya, Substance Painter, and presented in Unreal Engine.

With the announcement of the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, I wanted to try to recreate the bedroom of Lan Hikari.

I loved Battle Network 6 as a kid, and now the legacy collection gives me a chance to play the previous entries and learn more about the world and its characters.

As my second 2D to 3D project, recreating Lan’s room was a good learning experience since it made me consider the perspective and placement of props in the environment.
Most objects were safe to keep relatively simple for game ready implementation in this layout, meanwhile more complicated objects such as the bed needed the use of quad-draw.

Planning out the room

The Challenge of making a bed without Marvelous Designer made modeling the bed a big learning experience. Making use of Maya’s retopology, and Substance Painter’s smart masks to apply wrinkles without needing to overcomplicate the model/polycount.
